1" x 1/2" x 1/8" Channel Frame for Infill Panels (open vs. "banded" channel)

1" x 1/2" x 1/8" open channel frame

This view shows the wire ends that have been clinched down inside the channel.

1" x 1/2" 1/8" open channel frame

This view shows the outside of the channel frame member. Holes are punched into this member and the wires extended through the holes and then clinched over.

1" x 1/2" x 1/8" banded channel frame

"Banding" is an industry term which means to close off the open channel with a piece of flat. In this photo, the 1" x 1/2" x 1/8" channel is closed off with a piece of 1" x 1/8" steel flat. Banding is typically used when the infill panel will NOT be fitting tight to the handrail. The banding prevents dirt from building up inside the channel, keeps the wire ends out of sight, and prevents clothes and fingers from possible snagging on sharp wire ends.

1" x 1/2" x 1/8" channel frame with 1" x 1/8" flat banding

This infill panel shows how banding caps off the channel frame. Once this panel is ground smooth, painted, and installed it will look great.
